Founded in 1909, Waikato Diocesan School for Girls is an integrated Anglican day and boarding school for girls in Years 9-13, with a roll of approximately 670 students. The school is committed to personal excellence and strongly emphasises pastoral care. It has a record of outstanding academic success and high achievement in sports and the arts.

Commercial Manager

The Role:

Reporting to the Principal, and with regular Board interaction, this role will provide commercial leadership to senior management, governance, and the school community. One of its key functions involves identifying opportunities to increase revenue and drive cost efficiencies; other duties include:

  • Financial management, including business planning and budgeting

  • Performance and financial reporting – to leadership and governance

  • Regulatory and legal compliance, including health and safety

  • Procurement and negotiation of contracts

  • Property development and management

  • Overseeing school services – catering, facilities hire

  • Team leadership – this role will be responsible for a team of finance administration, payroll and human resources professionals also.

The Person:

We’re looking for the following attributes, in our ideal candidate:

  • Significant experience in a senior leadership role, ideally in business/commercial management, property development or a general management role;

  • Tertiary qualified – a CAANZ membership would be an advantage;

  • A proven ability to effectively lead and develop a team;

  • An innovative and strategic thinker with initiative, who is willing to take a “hands on” approach as required;

  • High quality planning and organisational skills, attention to detail and the delivery of quality support and advice;

  • An empathy for the special character of Dio.

This is a pivotal and influential role in the school, and there will be opportunities for personal and professional growth.
